China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi will visit Italy and Switzerland this week for high-level discussions focused on trade, industrial cooperation, and infrastructure development.
In Italy, Wang will attend the China-Italy Government Committee meeting, where both sides plan to review new measures to expand collaboration in automotive supply chains and smart transport systems. The agenda builds on earlier exchanges this year, including the Italian prime minister’s trip to Beijing that resulted in a three-year action plan to boost bilateral cooperation.
Italian officials have emphasized a pragmatic approach to Chinese investment. While Italy continues to align with certain EU policies—such as tariff safeguards on selected Chinese exports—leaders in Rome believe deeper engagement with China can strengthen domestic industry and infrastructure.
In Switzerland, Wang Yi will join a strategic dialogue with Swiss counterparts to discuss scientific and financial cooperation. Swiss leaders have expressed interest in advancing partnerships but insist that all deals will be evaluated through national security and regulatory frameworks.
Business groups from both nations plan to propose joint ventures and technology partnerships during the talks. At the same time, EU policymakers continue to urge a coordinated foreign investment screening system to protect strategic sectors.
Observers say the visits could influence cross-border deals and supply chain realignments, especially as companies across Europe reassess their procurement and manufacturing strategies amid ongoing geopolitical tensions.
